I hate the diet industry!

I hate the diet industry and I know that some of you are reading this and saying, “then why are you the general manager of a diet company?”

The company I manage is not a diet company.

It’s a commercial weight loss service. And I think some may say, “what’s the difference? You’re splitting hairs. Semantics!”

As far as I’m concerned the difference is night and day.

The most important distinction between the commercial weight loss services we offer and the diet industry is we take a holistic approach to weight management. We are so much more than a way to lose weight.

Our company mission is to help people reach and maintain a healthy weight by incorporating nutritious and healthy eating habits, regular physical activity, and healthy thinking and actions into their lifestyle.

We change lives. We help people discover their power, their creativity, their tenacity, and help them to apply those inner resources to their struggle with weight management. It’s common for members to take this new-found source of empowerment and apply it to all aspects of their life, going far beyond just weight control. Many discover how to improve or enhance their personal and professional lives using the tools and strategies they learned to help them manage their weight.

We don’t take food choices away from members. We broaden their choices!

We help members develop a healthy relationship with food and eating. We help members lose the guilt over eating what they love. We help them to put all of their food choices into a healthy context that ensures good nutrition and sufficient calorie restriction to allow for weight control and satisfaction simultaneously.

We don’t force members to exercise until it hurts.

We encourage physical activity and movement for pleasure. Members may find they enjoy working out at the gym and or with a personal trainer. We recognize their success. Others are making slower progress towards becoming more active and we are recognizing their success too. We teach members to go for progress, not perfection.

We don’t make promises we can’t deliver.

We don’t jeopardize the health of our customers by promoting unbalanced or low-calorie food plans. We don’t offer a temporary solution but rather a life-enhancing whole body/whole mind approach for sustained weight control.

The diet industry is made up of companies that fit three profiles:

  • the good (yes, there are a few good diet companies)
  • the bad (there are a lot of bad diet companies and they come and go just as fads and trends ebb and flow) 
  • the ugly (these are the worst of the worst because they may cause serious health complications)

There are too many ugly diet companies and some endure tricking people for decades. Most stick around long enough to scam the public, get some money, and disappear before they can be made accountable for fraud and maybe worse (ruining health causing such things as heartbeat irregularities or gallbladder disease) charges can be filed against them.

Comments on my blogs are often from some diet companies of questionable integrity.

They take advantage of the built-in audience of my blog to try to sell products or plans that don’t work. They prey on the readers who have been struggling with their weight for a long time and those who are new at trying to lose weight.

They make claims that lead their victims to believe that weight loss is fast, easy, and takes no effort, commitment or dedication on the part of the user. They promise fast results and brand new bodies that defy the DNA and basic body structure of those unfortunate enough to believe their claims.

The Internet is full of ugly diet companies making outrageous promises. Magazines also have their share of diet industry advertisements and you can find them on cable TV infomercials any time of the night or day. Don’t let them trick you!

  • There are no magic fixes!
  • No breakthrough scientific discoveries that take off 21 pounds in 21 days.
  • No miracle 3-week diet systems that deliver lasting weight loss.
  • No 10-Day Detox Diet to turn your body into a fat-blasting machine.
  • No 5 foods to never eat to lose belly fat fast.

Weight management isn’t about looking like a celebrity or “building the perfect beach body.”

Weight management is about taking care of your body so you have a place to live for a long, long time! That’s the big difference between what I want to help people do and the goal of the diet industry!
