What Would You Do to Lose Weight?

What would you do to lose weight?

You don’t have to go far to find somebody who wants to lose weight and somebody who is actively working at weight loss.????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????

Reasons for wanting to lose weight are almost as numerous as ways to lose weight. Some reasons for wanting to lose weight are not healthy. Some ways to lose weight aren’t healthy and some are dangerous.

Most of these weight loss methods I don’t advise and some, I strongly recommend nobody ever considers, much less tries! What would you do to lose weight?

Check all the things you would do to lose weight.
Would you:
  • Drink replacement shakes only and eat no solid foods? (  )
  • Eat cereal for two meals and a sensible dinner? (  )
  • Stop eating cooked foods (raw diet)? (  )
  • Use over-the-counter (OTC) diet drugs? (  )
  • Combine several OTC diet drugs to intensify their effectiveness?(  )
  • Combine OTC diet drugs with aspirin and caffeine tablets to intensify their effectiveness?(  )
  • Follow a very low calorie diet of 600 or fewer calories a day? (  )
  • Stop eating all foods with added sugars or artificial sweeteners?(  )
  • Search for a surgeon who’ll agree to perform gastric bypass surgery after examinations and evaluations by three different surgeons from three different practices refuse you because you’re not a good candidate.(  )
  • Engage a weight loss service that provides all your meals?(  )
  • Pay hundreds of dollars for the “guaranteed weight loss plan” you found advertised on your Facebook? (  )
  • Follow (yet again) the newest way to reset your body chemistry diet to end cravings by eliminating some foods and/or food groups? (  )
  • Sign up for Extreme Boot Camp? (  )
  • Have a tongue patch? (  )

How many checks do you have?

It’s not a big deal if you have 3 or 4 checks, depending on what it is you checked, of course. If you have 5 or more checks you may be what obesity researchers describe as a “desperate self-loather.”???????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????

Why should your weight make you loathe yourself? Usually it’s a matter of internal and external forces. It’s hard to avoid the negative influence of fat shamers. They’re everywhere expressing their obvious disgust and lack of appreciation for the intelligence or contributions to society that are made by people with BMIs of more than 30.

If you’re overweight you may already be your biggest critic and if not, you don’t have to go far to find people who will let you know that if you’re not disgusted with yourself, you should be.Screen Shot 2015-02-21 at 8.19.22 AM

For many, the more they hate themselves because of their weight, and the more desperate they get to lose weight, they become more self-loathing. Weight loss becomes a form of punishment. Weight loss efforts must be punitive if they expect success.

They have it backwards. Weight loss is most effective when it’s an act of self love. Your weight loss actions should not be punitive forcing you to be hungry, hurt yourself with extreme workouts, give up altogether eating the foods you love, eating food you find distasteful or (in the case of the tongue patch) making eating a painful experience.Screen Shot 2015-02-21 at 8.25.09 AM

If you do feel desperate to lose weight and you hate yourself because of how much you weigh, your first step may be to learn to accept and love yourself. Once you stop hating yourself you can seek ways to take care of yourself that are not punitive, but rather life enhancing.

You’ll lose weight and keep it off because you’ve changed your approach from punitive to life enhancing!
